Isobutane is a colorless gas with a faint petroleum-like odor. It is shipped as a liquefied gas under its vapor pressure. Contact with the liquid can cause frostbite. It is easily ignited. The vapors are heavier than air. Any leak can either be liquid or vapor. It can asphyxiate by the displacement of air. Under prolonged exposure to fire or intense heat the containers may rupture violently and rocket.

 Isobutane (i-butane) is an isomer of butane.
 As with normal butane, isobutane is a flammable hydrocarbon gas that is liquefied through pressurisation.
 Isobutane is converted from butane in a process called isomerization.
 In addition to being used as a fuel, isobutane is commonly used as a refrigerant and a propellant.
 Isobutane has very low global warming potential and insignificant ozone depletion potential.
 However, its main use is in refineries to increase octane of gasoline and make it cleaner burning.

 

Usage

 Iso-butane , also known as R-600a, is a new hydrocarbon refrigerant with excellent performance. it is environmental friendly, with no greenhouse effect, no destruction to the ozone layer.
 Features include high evaporation latent heat, efficient cooling capacity, good mobility, low transport pressure and power consumption, slow load temperature rise and compatible with lubricating oil of  all kinds of compression engine.

Attention

 Flammable, will form explosive mixture with  air, may result in combustion and explosion if expose to source of heat or open  fire.React violently with oxidizing agent. It is heavier than air, will spread to distant area at lower levels, and strike-back if come into source of  ignition.(Deficient R600a in refrigeration system would cause high pressure and abnormal noise,thus shortened life expectancy of compression engine)
